This is just a photoshop mockup I made a couple of days ago, for the art-ubuntu mailinglist. Just thought I would provide some ideas for a new ubuntu theme.
First: The window art is not mine, but a modified version of Ken's :

The wallpaper is a stock-art image from sxc.hu.
Please ignore the poorly contrasted notification icons on the upper right and other silly flaws, as mentioned it is only a mockup ;)
Comments are appreciated. Here, or at the wiki:

I love it, the top of the window is too dark though, it doesn't blend in with the rest of the theme.

I love that theme. I think it's good that you got some darker color on the window borders too, or else you would get bored very fast by a theme with almost the same light colors. I don't think the panel sould have that rounded look though, reminds me to much of Vista. The text in Programmer/Steder/System (Applications/Places/System), shouldn't be white either. It might look better with slightly more brown in it (almost just like a shadow).

It looks nice but it's missing some things:
Difference between focused/not focused windows
Minimize/Maximize/Close
Where the windows go and what they look like when minimized.

at all i think that orange/brown is hard on the eye because it is really dizzy, i think the best is green color

kool_kat_os, hammedhaaret: What is it you don't like about the background?
SunnyRabiera: Thanks, although there is no "official mockup"... I guess you're talking about Ken's mockup I posted in my initial post.... which is not official in any way.
I know what you mean about too brown - I'm not too fond of brown myself, but that's what Ubuntu is supposed to be - brown. Its image is built upon brown, african environment (ubuntu is a african word), orange etc.
bashveank: Well Ken's mockup has less contrast between the top and the rest, I tried making the contrast more intense, I think the dark brown looks better, and less dull.
Ub1476: Thanks. Yes, you might be right about the rounded edges. Rounded edges are included in Ken's mockup, maybe it's too much on menus. But it is probably to make it consistent... Programmer and System should probably have a little tint of brown in it, indeed.
Merk42: Yep I know that, it's just a fast mockup, I'll probably develop it further a bit later :)
syms: I use green color on my desktop atm, however Ubuntu is supposed to be brown, or at least orange/black. I might try to explore the orange/black/grey combination more as well...

I would love to see this theme on a darker less detailed wallpaper. The icons on the panel looks a bit weird though, are they supposed be transparent?

k99goran, nope, as the first post states, don't care about the notification icons, I haven't had time to do anything with them yet...

That looks amazing! I love the menus and the gradients, and pretty much all of it! I'd love to see this made a theme. With opacity, of course, so we can change the wallpaper.

I love the theme. I usually go for the lighter browns but the menus, transparency and feel comes off very well. The wallpaper, on the other hand isn't that great to use for demo purposes. Also, I'd consider some taskbar work, there was a thread recently that made some key changes to the items feel on the task bar, and I think some of those would go well with this.
Keep up the good work. A few tweaks and I'd say that it is submit-worthy for the Hardy devs
