Well, I am a noob to linux altogether, and I had the same problem. I have found that changing the keyboard shortcut under Computer > Desktop Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts seems to work. Your may be set to disabled if you haven't set it.
Hope this fixes it, if it even helps at all.

You do know that you can Computer -> Take Snapshot and use the GIMP to take a snapshot (along with set a timer which will take the snapshot after however many seconds you declare).

I bet you some money if you change it to Super_L (Left Windows Key) it will work. :)

Hm, I'm also having problems using Print Screen...however, if I set the keyboard shortcut to anything else, it works...the only thing that doesn't work is the print screen key. Maybe an X keyboard configuration problem?

Same here. Must be a bug. Anyone on Hoary that could test if the <print screen> button works to see if it's a warty problem or the problem is still in.

It works just fine for me if you Computer -> Desktop Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts and set Print Screen to Take Screenshot. :\

Yeah - it does. However, what if someone wants to take a screenshot of MENUS to show the OS off to friends? You cannot do both at the same time.
I would also like a way to use the keyboard to snap screenshots, namely menus.
If I have a menu open, I can't then move my mouse to the Computer menu to click take screenshot.
EDIT:
I just set the keyboard to the Super_L (left win key) and it worked -- but it doesn't work if I pull down a MENU -- example, Applications.
ANy ideas?

You can Gimp for that purpose.
In Gimp:
'File tab', 'Aquire' then 'Screnshot'. A little window appear now click on the box that says 'the whole window' and under that box is there a delay option box, set it to fair amount of secs. and press OK.
Now you have time to open the menu you want to show in your screenshot.

Yeah - that works. I knew the gimp would do it, prolly some other graphics apps as well.
It seems like too much work, although it's about the same process as one might expect in windows. Except the print screen button worked.
I'm not raggin, I love Ubuntu. I think the print screen or keyboard shortcut should work, though...and it does, just not with any menus down.
the gimp work around isn't really that big a deal though.

Same goes here, Print Screen button doesn't work. Tried F12 and it worked like a charm. I guess any other key except Print Screen can work.
