Compiz-Fuz Ubuntu 7.10 *thumbs up*

Well done, this was extremely easy to install. I just got Ubuntu 7.10 freshly installed today. However, I hear it is a bit more difficult to install with an updated version. Tested out the features with the help of youtube videos and I already am kissing XP goodbye!

Though this will probably be moved soon, I do have to aggree that the out of the box feel of this new release is rapidly approaching my lazy-oriented life :)

Still some digging required but this is the very first linux installation done by me which did not require
advanced patching to get the video drivers operational.

I would have liked to see the compiz configuration manager to come pre-installed with 7.10 though... don't hide the fun!

Currently having fun with wobbely windows, rotating cube, window decorations and close / open / minimize effects... Go Ubuntu :)

I have checked the box Desktop Cube.... everywhere with CUBE :)

But I Can't start the Cube. Spectial Hotkeys...?
I have wobbly windows - they bruning when I close them, but no Cube :(

Hey, welcome to Linux :)

If you've enabled the cube, try Alt-Ctrl and click left mouse button, try moving your mouse while doing this ;)

Control + Alt + Mouse button 1 (left is lefthanded mouse setup, right if righthanded) and simultainuously moving the mouse doesn't give you the cube?

How about Ctrl + Alt + Left / Right / Down?

You should check if the hotkeys are saved, yes :)

System -> Preference -> Appearance
Visual Effects Tab (on the far right)

Is this set to custom or perhaps still set to "Normal" or "Extra" ?

gconf-editor

Go to: apps -> compiz -> plugins -> cube -> allscreens -> options

Hotkey settings can be seen with the above or just with the same config tool you where using all the time. Just click the "Desktop Cube" icon and go to the "Actions" tab.

Now I have the Cube but not as I want....

hi Tredici,

though, i agree with you at some points about leaving XP goodbye. It isn't completed as of yet, since not all Windows apps run in Ubuntu, especially if you play games a lot, you won't be able to play most games in Ubuntu with WINE.

Overall, i'm satified with Ubuntu.
