Hi,
As a recent Ubuntu convert I am loving the non MSFT experience! However, aside music and Firefox my main pc use is for digital pictures. I don't really care about software to organize the pics, but rather edit them. All the linux editors do a solid job of editing with one glaring exception - being able to put the date stamp on the picture!

I take tons of pics of my kids. I edit/touch up the pics then have them printed and we put them in photo albums. Having the date stamp info in the RAW/EXIF file is of no help when we're looking at actual prints.

On the windows side of the world I know of 2 apps that do this - PhotoBrush, which is the gold standard, and Stamp.

I desperately want to avoid using Wine to hack job this as I have drunk the Ubuntu kool-aid and want to continue to enjoy the speed and ease of use.

Help is most appreciated.
thanks!

I did some googling, and there is a utility called jhead (http://www.sentex.net/~mwandel/jhead/) which does it for you. Here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/jdatestamp/) is another utility. Might try them.

Also you could use Phatch:

http://photobatch.stani.be > free download (0.1.bzr245)

... also download the package python-pyexiv2 (hardy, but also works on gutsy):
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/python/python-pyexiv2

You can add a date stamp by adding a text action and use an exif variable:
