I for one am very pleased that the BBC are recognizing and supporting the FOSS community with the release of the iplayer beta which works with Linux.

Only works with UK ip addresses.

It's not quite a native Linux version of the software which is already available for Windows, though, is it? It's just a flash player for streaming the content.
Better than nothing.

It's free but it's not open source. But atleast many UK linux users here would be able to watch BBC online.
