One of the main reasons that ubuntu is so popular is that it is not bloated. It does not throw upon one all the stuff the linux community has to offer. It keeps the shelf simple by choosing sane defaults and using just them. Then the user can install whole repositories if they want, but the base is simple and elegantly chosen.
The screensavers are where I tend to find a glaring difference with this approach.Yes,its a minor inconvenience, rather a minor discontinuity, but I think it's one that is needed to be addressed. The screensavers section is full with screensavers, loads of them, many of whom are never used. Some look like they are from the ages of Red Hat 5.
So what I want is a review of this section in Hardy. By default.I want no more than 5-10 screensavers installed, including a blank one and a slideshow one.The others should be sleek and modern. That way,the screensaver section would look professional, and the present screensavers should go into repository for those who need it. It will also free up valuable space in the Live CD which can be used to include some other great packages.
