Where to register a domain name

Hi,

I want to host my website, and I want to register a domain name. I checked Yahoo, but apparently when I register a domain name through Yahoo I have to use their hosting services and I cannot host my own website.
I appreciate for any suggestions or comments about the right place to register a domain.
