Ive heard enough conversations and examinations into both Bill and Steve's behaviors, that I fear neither of them has the ability to communicate in a way thats considered anything but neanderthal-like.
To see this only validates my feelings further. Gates is the most attacked man on the planet in the IT world. I think hes disliked by us (the linux community) almost as much as Darl McBride. But that doesnt give him the right to say these types of things publically. Of course many CEO's do this....
Im taken back to a comment made by Larry E in reguards to his acquisition of Peoplesoft, where he stated that if he had a gun with one bullet and Conway were sitting in front of him with his pet dog, Larry wouldnt be pointing the gun at the dog on impulse.

That's a good one :)

Amazing, I'm speechless...I think Bill and Balmer know they are in a situation which are dangerous for their monopoly...

If the story is true then hmmm what dumbasses.
But given the shocking quality and standards of web based IT reporting I doubt the accuracy
of the story.

I like him a pretty good bit. Because of him and his software people expect computers to be unstable money pits. Instead of fixing computer with spyware and viruses, people throw them away and buy new ones. Before Windows came around, my dad's high end 386 cost $5000 (like what, $10000 in today's money?). Now I can buy like 14 low end Dells for that (not that I would want to). He helped make hardware cheap, and lowered the expectations placed on nerds.
If I ever meet him, I would thank him for making people scared of computers- I like cheap hardware AND I like the fact that nerding is an "underground" hobby.

I had the same thought when I read the story.

I suppose your right PHG. I should congratulate both Gates/Ballmer and McBride for making our choice in OS so popular that they expenditure massive amounts of money to discredit us to no avail.

That's funny but I imagine it's true especially of people that don't know much about computers (well more specifically MS-Windows.) It reminds me of a post I saw a long time ago on a forum where some guy said that he had to buy a new mouse every so often because it would enevitably act wierd like the pointer not moving sometimes and things like that. The post after that said that there is nothing wrong with his mouse, he just needs to clean it every once in a while.
Unlike removing dirt and stuff from a traditional ball mouse, the idea of having to run antivirus and antispyware on a computer is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

They're both pricks, end of story. Gates is the reason why I use Linux, and Steve, well, words are undescibeable in this post and will remain quiet.
*Tries to open another conversation* So, who's enjoying Breezy ;) ;)

there is propably some truth to it...
such a weired thing to say about customer, if he doesn't like competition fine, but that is not good for business
