setting upp java

I am quite new to ubuntu/linux and need some help.

What I need help with is how to set up java compiler and where/how I should put extra
libraries. I need java 5.0

You can find information on www.ubuntuguide.org .
There are instructions on how to setup java.

You will probably find sun-j2re (runtime environemnt), but you should install sun-j2sdk (with the same instructions, just change package name).
