Desktop effects on dell inspiron 9300

Hey;

I am using a dell inspiron 9300, with an ATI mobility radeon x300 (128mb), and the desktop effects were screwed up. I then decided to download the ATI accelerated graphics driver, but this just made the effects unable to run at all. ATM i get a message simply saying; "Desktop effects cannot be enabled" and if i choose another mobility radeon driver it pops up saying "Recombinant function does not exist. Has anyone with similar specs got the same problem, and if they solved it, how?

I had the same problem. I went into System->admin->restricted driver....

And I unchecked the ATI (basically decided not to use it) and rebooted (probably didn't have to).

I was then able to use the desktop effects.
