I've been chewing on the idea for a while and decided a few days ago to make it a reality. So here it is:

Ubuntu CMS Edition

Ubuntu 7.10 Server plus a tweaked LAMP configuration and preinstalled versions of all the most popular Content Management Systems (aka CMS), all bundled within a VMWare Virtual Appliance. I've posted the included content management systems (Drupal, MovableType, typo3, etc) at the project's website (http://www.ubuntucms.com).

Just looking to get a little input from the community. Flying this solo as of now so any and all feedback, is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Tom

Very cute.. ha ha ha ha

That does seem like a reasonable response to me ;)

I'm so far not convinced that nearly everything that calls itself a "CMS" is just full of fluff or something.. Of course, Drupal isn't that. Neither is Blackboard, WebCT and maybe you could include SharePoint (though you'd be cruel to acknowledge SP at all).

At the end of the day if one wants to install something such as Wordpress but doesn't have the background to do mess with Linux services, then perhaps something like Wamp would save the day: http://www.wampserver.com/en/

And of course, if anyone wants that as a virtual appliance, there are now many decent free options for virtualization software to install an OS on to. I personally perfer VMWare Server, but Sun's xVM is pretty cool too.

Cheerio friends
