Hi

I was thinking that since there are many people here with very cool desktop screenshots, wouldn't it be nice to include in ubuntu's main website in the screenshot section a small selection (4-5) of some of those? Maybe call it user submitted screenshots or something like that, in the other screenshots section:
http://www.ubuntu.com/screenshots/document_view

They could be thumbernailed versions of the gallery shots in here & when clicked, they would open the link in the gallery.

This would help newcomers see that ubuntu has a minimalistic default desktop, but that can be arranged to look very cool.

What do you think?

I think this is a good idea. If one can see what can be made of ubuntu maybe he will not give up so fast, when encountering a problem...

Yes, it's another way to introduce new users to our beloved forums :D

My point is to show the people that don't like the default desktop that there's a lot of personalization in ubuntu. I still see a lot of threads saying things like "I don't like brown" & similar things.

The screenshot section in ubuntu's site is not properly used in my own opinion. There are shots of the older release & shots of ubuntu in other languages. To me is just more of the same... Introducing some user made shots will show off more, since I personally think that ubuntu's default desktop hasn't got too much eye candy in it (at least until hoary, let's see what the artwork team is up to in breezy).
