I got an assignment at my college (I'm studying film and video editing) to make a presentation of interactive video (like Adobe Flash) and to make an example interactive video of my own. Is there anything in Linux world I could try for making these? It doesn't necessarily have to be in swf format but it has to include live footage and/or animation and has to be "playable" on Windows and of course to be interactive (ie. clickable with the mouse cursor). I have virtually no experience in programming but I have two months and a will to learn. Which is the easiest way to go?

I'm pretty sure that can be done best with PD and GEM (which both run on Windows).

There are several tools from SourceForge available, but nothing quiet there yet as far as a comprehensive Linux tool. Adobe has done things right using the Macromedia / javascript Flash authoring package. The Sun Java Media Foundation library (JMF) was the shortest answer I found when I was working on something similar like what you're trying to do. But then, you would have to learn java.

Yes, my google searches found Java and JMF too. I even started reading the documentation on Sun's website and made HelloWorld too ;). I'll try learning and see where it's heading (I'm avoiding the stupid question of how much time do I need here).

PD and GEM? I'll check out those too but if I'm going to learn programming then maybe Java is more useful because its all over the place.

Thing is this doesn't need to be too complicated. I just need the video to play with a click of a button, when it stops, a button or a highlighted area shows up, click on it , continue playing another video, rinse, lather, repeat...
