I've done a few installs a 64bit Gutsy and this has never happened to me. I went to install flash and I get this:
Download done.
md5sum mismatch install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
The Flash plugin is NOT installed.

I was getting exactly the same error last night. Funnily enough flashplugin-nonerror installed fine.
The error was being generated when it was checking the flash player download from adobe.
Have you tried again recently?

Well before I did anything I uninstalled the flash plugin this morning and tried again, worked fine. Go figure.
