I downloaded Amarok yestersay using the apt-get tool. Now, the repo has a rather older version - 1.2.something - lying around. However, Fedora's repos have the latest version So, can someone look into it? Of course, I can compile from the source - but I prefer to use the apt-get method.

each repo is updated on a diferent time line, eg the security repos are probaly updated as soon as a security patch comes out but like the next version of some program can take some time. (it took a month for gaim 1.5 to come out i think.)

Unless you use the backport repos, new programs are never packaged and uploaded, except for security fixes. Even then, the fix patch is just applied to the source in the repos.

This helps with support, as everybody has the same feature set.

You'll find it much more convenient to add backport repositories. Or to compile it yourself. I do for some of my more frequently used apps.
