How to modify your user name

Hi everyone,

I am new in the Linux world and specially in the Ubuntu world (I used Fedora for some time, but it turned out that Ubuntu is better tailored to my laptop). I recently joined the Ubuntu Forums but for some reason I chose a login name which was the one I actually wanted to choose. Later I tried to change it (signing with my desired login name), but I couldn't. Moreover, now my preferred login name seems to be taken (by myself!) but I can;t use it to login. Bottom line: is it possible to modify your user name (to log in the forums); if so, how can this be done? (my question may be completely silly but I have no clue how to do it).

You cannot change your name, and the mods very rarely do.

I tried but it does not let me because it says the other username is already taken (by myself)! Anyway, it sn't a big deal I guess, so I'll live with it :)
