1. Get wine HQ
2. Get windows Media Player 9 and install it (Why media player 9 Because it has graphics that will work with it and does not have wmp.dll)

Doesn't work here.
Mediaplayer just shows "internal error" when I try to run it.
Using Wine 0.9.50 on Ubuntu 7.10...

Same exact with me... also... that's two steps. Where's the third?

The hardware in your pc might not be compatible with MEDIA PLAYER

A lot of windows software would work just fine in wine but they intensionally add some sort of code to check and make sure it's really windows - an example of this is windows live messenger... it should and would work as far as I'm concerned, but it doesn't. I'm guessing this is another case of that - perhaps more lax though and perhaps some wine installations can fool it?

I've never tried this in Ubuntu, but I've used this trick to install Windows Media Player 11 on Windows XP Media Center 2002, though it's only "supposed" to run on Windows XP Media Center 2005 or later...
Download 7-zip and the executable file for Windows Media Player 11. Use 7-zip to extract the files from the installer. Run wmfdist11.exe. After that is finished, run wmp11.exe.
That's all it takes to get around it checking which operating system you're running!

Same here, I'm far from being a fan of wmp, it's pretty crappy in my eyes but I need it for my mp3 player which is wmp only. The last time I synchronised it was back when was using windows, so some help with this would be greatly appreciated.

You should probably start a new thread for this purpose.
The base post of thie on is nearly two years old.
If you can only sync your device through WMP you're likely not going to be able to do it on Linux.
Have you tried simply copying files to the device? Does it mount?

Yes it does mount, and through nautilus I've got full access to it. However in the manual it says explicitly that dnd does not work to actually put music on it, but I will try it anyway and report back. I've posted another thread about this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1293797
