World of Warcraft is running great under 7.10 and wine 0.9.49 and I have none of the issues with sound that have been noted. What I do notice, compared to WoW on Windows or OS X, is that the volume of sound effects drop off greatly as distance increases. As a result, the sounds of combat (swords clanging, etc) are loud, but footsteps are practically silent. As a way around this, I have "Sound at Character" disabled so that the camera location is where sounds are received.
I have tried both wine and Cedega (overall, wine is much better), both the integrated sound on my AM2 nForce board and an Audigy 1 sound card, and ALSA and OSS. It's almost as if the game is using 5.1 sound but I'm only using 2.1 speakers. Testing the sound positioning by turning around near a waterfall, there is a distinct jump from one side to the other, its volume is much lower when the source is behind the character.
Any suggestions?
