Greetings,
I have a question about Wine on Ubuntu... why it's so slow? I mean, when I click on a .exe file (DC++ let's say) it opens on a few minutes later!
Anyone can help me with this problem?
Note that I don't use it for games, but only for emulate Windows liter programs.
Thanks.

WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR >.>
... and don't worry, this is normal behavior for some apps. Your system specs/how you have Wine configured may have something to do with it, but some apps just take awhile to load sadly. :\

I knew it isn't an emulator, but couldn't find other words to describe it's usage. So, let's say then: wine works very slow when I try to open windows .exe's.
I have a Athlon XP @ 2800+, 1.5G RAM, a ATA HDD.
edit: I didn't configured Wine at all, what configurations should I change?

"I knew it isn't an emulator, but couldn't find other words to describe it's usage"
So simply saying "wine slow when running programs" isn't good enough? :P

Click on the "Stuff I've learned about Wine" link in my sig, you will find plenty of info on the basic configuration and usage of Wine there.

Hi,
I have the same problem. Wine takes 4 to 5 minutes at start-up, even only opening the configuration window, or any other program. Could you solve your problem, rootk1t?
cogadh, I tried to follow your link, but it seems to be dead.
Any help will be appreciated.

Looks like the site is currently down, but I'm sure it will be back up soon. There is a very slightly outdated version of the same document stickied at the top of this forum. Everything in it is still valid, so you can use that until the site comes back up.

I've been reading the sticky posts of the forum, but still can't figure out what I could try to solve this. It's strange, because Wine works well, no error messages in the terminal, the programs run smooth... But it takes up to 5 minutes to start up!
I'm using Wine 1.0, windows version XP.
Any suggestions?
PS: I warn everyone I'm relatively new in Linux.
PS2: Should I open a new post with this problem?
