How to get wine to work with CS:S?

Using either ALSA/OSS if I join an empty server, or a server with 1 other person, it works fine.

If I join a server with a few people, it freezes after a few seconds. I join a large server, it freezes when I connect.

I have tried with both ALSA and OSS (with hardware emulation) set in winecfg.

Does it work fine for anyone else?

I have a nonsteam version of CS 1.6 on my Windows computer and it does the same thing. Do you have a Non-Steam version of Counter-Strike: Source?
