Hi, I am trying to run Freeciv from synaptic, I have installed everything that the search for Freeciv comes up with, but I am still having this problem on the gtk client, the other one seems to want me to connect to someone else.

Whenever I send a unit to attack something the message comes up, "Order for (my unit) aborted because of failed move." so combat seems to be rather dull. What is this problem? How do I fix it?

You might wanna try downloading the latest stable version from the Freeciv site?

Guess so. Do I need to uninstall the version I already have?

It would be a good idea to do so, since the old data might interfere with the new data, or something like that.

You may need to declare war on the nation first. Or it could be that you need to use the number pad to attack instead of click-and-drag with the mouse, as this is the goto feature.

The compile doesn't work, it can't find gtk, xaw or sdl so that's not so good. Also I can attack things like barbarians fine, and how do I declare war? I've got no treaties as far as I can tell.

If I remember, when you try to attack a neutral or friendly nation it wil ask if you want war.
Since the compiler wont work, try the .deb here (http://www.getdeb.net/release.php?id=1772)

Dammit, I'm gonna have to upgrade... Really I should be using xubuntu on this computer.. Thanks for your help, but I don't think I'm having much luck today.

You could also try older versions of Freeciv if you want to then?

F3 or Reports > Players to see your diplomatic status with other nations, then select a player and click Cancel Treaty. In 2.0.8 and 2.0.9 I think you have to select a player, then click Player up the top, and then cancel it from there.
