Hello all,

I've been looking for a strategy game for Ubuntu. Graphics don't need to be super high or whatever. 2D ones also acceptable as long as the game is fun. Anything like Civilization or some conquering game would do fantastic. Thanks a lot in advanced.

There just was a thread about this :/

But from what I remember - Wesnoth, Warzone 2100, Boson (meh), Freeciv, Freecol, Glest, Globulation 2 are the ones to check out.

Atm I'm hooked on Darwinia. You can give the demo a try here (click (http://www.darwinia.co.uk/downloads/demo_linux.html)).

FreeCiv is as close as you can get to Civilization without just buying the Linux port of Civ 3. ;) Battle for Wesnoth is quite outstanding, if you like turn-based strategy. If the game can cost something, I really recommend Dominions 3, which might well be the only strategy game you will need for a couple of years, though graphics are not spectacular. The Linux version of X3: Reunion (think Elite here) is also coming out in December.

Of which game? Civ? Yes, saw that at the Linux store I shop at. :) And X3's port will be out very soon, too. I'll definitely buy that one.. (I think it was Civ3 -- that was the one with the Call to Power add-on, right?)

Yeah, Civ3. Civ4 would be nicer, but 3 will do too!

What's the store?

It's a German store in Berlin, I'm afraid: ixsoft (http://ixsoft.de/cgi-bin/web_store.cgi). The game was ported by Loki, and they went bankrupt earlier this year. Not sure if it is still widely available.

Hmm... does Loki have anything to do with the Loki installer?

Umm, couple of things, Number 1, Loki (http://www.lokigames.com/) went Bankrupt a long time ago.. Like January 2002? As far as getting any of their stuff, good luck! I would try Ebay. As far as buying Linux Games, Tuxgames.com (http://www.tuxgames.com/index.cgi?referrer=LinuxGamer) is a good one. Linuxgamepublishing (http://www.linuxgamepublishing.com/) is who is putting out most of the decent ports of games now for Linux. I think you can buy directly from them also. For other decent Linux Games you can look at Garage Games (http://www.garagegames.com/demos/browse/game/)
And yes, Loki Games originally did the Loki Installer.. Now Icculus.org (http://www.icculus.org/) does work on refining it.
Good luck!

Well, damn. Some of their titles look good.
