How did I miss this for so long, this is an awesome game. Been playing all evening, going to have to get friends addicted.

It's definitely good. I love their excellent graphics (I'm on a Radeon 7500, so I was very impressed).

its the first time I don't get bored of the music in a game.

ubuntu is ace for putting games like this in the repositories. Easy install makes this distro much better than anything i've ever tried

The one is the repository's is 6.05, install 6.10 from there site as it has some noticeable improvements.

Nexuis and sauerbraten are pretty darn good as well.

Followed your advice, and downloaded the latest version from the site you link to. Graphics and gameplay are fantastic, but I'm getting no sound. No music or in game noises. Is there something I need to do to enable this?

Cheers.

EDIT: That's twice today! I post up questions then find my own answers!

For others who may find this problem, I changed to the alien arena directory with cd and typed ./crx.sdl to run the game with audio. Maybe this will prove useful for others, maybe not, but I thought it might be worth a mention.

Two things:

(a) Obviously not all of them are enabled, because Alien Arena is actually in the Multiverse Ubuntu repository.

(b) The Multiverse repository only has version 6.05, whereas the current version of the game which you can get from http://red.planetarena.org is 6.10. Better to download the linux version from that site and run it yourself than use the out-of-date version in the repositories.

Just checked. Multiverse is enabled. Found it in Gutsy. It does not seem to be in Feisty though. I will get it from the net as you said. Cheers:)

Is this game in the multiverse because the content is non-free? The engine is the GPL licensed Quake one right?

I think it's a heavily modified quake II engine but I might be wrong.
