What synths are available and what do you recommend? I want something with a lot of presets or a large community that shares presets preferably. It would be nice to have an acoustic piano sound, organ, and sawtooth especially.
Ive messed with zynaddsubfx and amsynth, and they seem good, but im looking for more presets.

you know you can add lots of sound banks to zynaddsubfx to give it way more presets. here's a howto in the community docs https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToCompressedSoundFonts

whoops, upon further research I realize I messed up that advice entirely. according to this old site (an old cache from google) http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:d7BXe9vtCGEJ:stdio.be/aui/studio/firststudio1.html+zynaddsubfx+soundfonts&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=9&gl=ca&client=firefox-a
zynaddsubfx is not a soundfont synth. Soundfonts are for sample-based synths such as timidity++ and fluidsynth.
I might suggest using a variety of different applications to get the various sounds, zynaddsubfx for some sounds, soundfonts and fluidsynth for others, I might also point you to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=571377 this post describing an organ synth.
