what is the difference between linux mint and ubuntu.what programs does linux mint come with and are there any other differences

mint install contains a few mint apps such as mintUpdate and their own control panel. they also package a lot of closed source stuff such as drivers and codecs that you dont get with ubuntu.

try a livecd and have a play and you'll soon see the differences

In many ways I prefer Ubuntu, but if you find it difficult or too time consuming to get the multimedia working as you want it in Ubuntu, Mint may well fit the bill as it all works there out of the box.

As renzokuken said, get the live CD of Daryna and have a look. It is certainly a good looking screen that appears by default and means you don't need to change theme, colour etc, if you don't like Ubuntu's default brown.
