Long story short, bought a new laptop, put gutsy on it, tried to get the fancy effects. Well, I enabled certain software packages, installed them, rebooted, selected my restricted driver for ATI in the list, rebooted, and here I am. In the menu, I have 3 options. Basic, medium, or advanced 3d effects. Normally, there's an option under it for customize and I can customize compiz the way I want. However, it's not there. So I'm basically stuck with these 3 options with no customizing abilities.
And no, if I go to system - preferences an "advanced desktop settings" option is not there. How can I fix this?

That fixed it. I've just been dealing with so many issues with this laptop and ubuntu today that I was thinking entirely too complex. Duuur! Thanks!

I have the compiz config settings manager installed but I just can't seem to open it, so I can't configure any options. It worked before, but after an upgrade it just stopped working. I have effects but can't costumize them. neither can I have more than 2 workspaces on my deskwall, I change the option on the tray icon (2,2) and it still sticks with 2 horizontal workspaces.
please help me on this one
