please tell..whats your favorite free lnux game? also, along with your favorite free game, include a small review of it also! :)
Please Respond in the following format:
Title:SuperTux
Rating:8/10
Website: http://supertux.berlios.de/
Installation:apt-get install supertux
Review:This is a well-done rip-off of Super Mario Bros., starring Tux the penguin. Although the levels are somewhat repetitive, you cant help yourself from becoming addicted to it. My only problem is the sound effects, which can get really annoying sometimes, but that can be turned off! Overall though, this game is worth a shot.

Nexuiz -- http://www.nexuiz.com
Rating: 10/10
Installation: Binary off their site, nothing to compile
Review: A fast-paced free-as-speech ego shooter with excellent graphics. After many years of development Nexuiz has been released to the public! See the Nexuiz download page for mirrors.
The initial release weighs 161 MB, includes 17 maps, 28 characters, 10 music tracks, and is entirely GPL (code, content, everything). Released on the 9th year anniversary of Quake1 being published, it is entirely free. Linux(x86/x86_64) and Windows binarys are included in the release, but unfortunatly Mac support is not finished yet and we will release a patch for the Mac users in the next few days. The game is intense, chaotic, fast and everything it was designed to be. Basic old style deathmatch at its finest, anyone can download the game and easily join an on going fragfest, or start their own game and advertise it on our master server. Any online deathmatch player will instantly feel at home with its weapons and movement.

Title: The Battle for Wesnoth
Rating:8/10
Website: http://www.wesnoth.org/
Installation:apt-get install wesnoth for a slightly outdated version or download and complie for the newest (it's not as hard as it sounds and there are simple instructions on the web site)
Review: This is a strategy game with passing similarities in game play to warcraft, starcraft and the like with a focus on the battle strategy and without the building/mining/etc. There's a nice twist, the game board and movement are hexagonal. Also, there are several campaigns already made and the ability to make you own is there as well. You can also play multiplayer, which I haven't done yet but next lan party...
EDIT: Gotta informally add Nethack 'cause it's just so stinking addicting. I remember playing it when I was supposed to be working in the computer labs in college <mumbles> years ago. It's in the repos, along with some nice gui versions.

Title: ADOM
Rating: 9/10
Website: http://www.adom.de/
Installation: Download binary
Review: Awesome uber-in-depth RPG. You can spend literally months on this and still not even leave the first area. The graphics and controls are intentionally bad, as that's standard for all roguelikes, but once you get used to it, it is very cool. :) I'll never forget seeing a "&" sign out of the corner of my eye one day and nearly jumping out of my chair in fright ("&" signs are used to represent greater demons in ADOM, and encounters with them usually end badly). It will also run on almost anything, since the "graphics" are hardly more than text.

Score = 9/10
A must get for anyone who likes shoot-em-ups... It is easily got by apt-get, only gripe is that development has stopped. It is a bit repetitive, but it is a good way to relieve stress!!
Game = blobwars
Score = 9.5/10
Another shoot-em-up.. very nice graphics for a side scroller and I like the gore when something explodes.

I'm biased as I maintain the Ubuntu/Debian packages, but my pick is:
Title: The Doomsday Engine
Rating: 7/10
Website: http://eyagi.bpa.nu/~jamie/doomsday.html
Installation: Instructions and repository listed above.
Review: A graphically enhanced Doom sourceport, this adds high resolution textures, 3D models and enhanced graphical effects to Doom, Doom2, Final Doom, Heretric and Hexen. To use the engine you will need at least one of doomu.wad, doom2.wad, tnt.wad, or plutonia.wad for Doom, heretic.wad for Heretic and hexen.wad for Hexen. If you only have doom.wad, rename it to doomu.wad to make the doomu installer happy. Freedoom doesn't work with Doomsday, but if you only want to play the packaged megawads at the repo, download freedoom and rename it to doom2.wad to make the doom2 installer happy, and then you can run the pwads with it, eg icarus or hell revealed.
amd64 users, use an i386 chroot as currently 64bit versions don't work, powerpc users need to build from source.

I'll add another game:
Title:TuxRacer
Rating:6.5/10
Website: http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/
Installation:apt-get install tuxracer
Review:This is a game where you basically slide down a hill and collect tokens, or "herring". Although this may seem very simple at first, this game can be fun, but very small as well. There is a new version in the works called "Planet Penguin Racer" (which i havent figured out how to install ](*,) ). But if you want some quick fun for a cheap price (free!), this is your game.
another side note: the game can be anything (open source, not open source, etc.) as long as the game is 100% free of price, you can post it.

Good point, but these games have been mentioned before in this thread, so I did not think to do this:
Nexuiz:
Deathmatch - http://www.nexuiz.com/
Based on some derivative of the Quake 1 engine.
Download the zip file and extract. Several executables depending on OS, graphics. Runs from the directory it has been extracted to - no fancy installation that makes you wonder what it did.
Tuxracer
http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/
How to describe? Skiing a penguin down some ice at 100km/h plus.
Comes with some distributions - can't remember whether I had to install it on Ubuntu, but it is here now.
Bzflag
http://www.bzflag.org/
Shoot tanks.
Same idea as the tank games you used to get in arcades, but a lot nicer!
I had to install this on Ubuntu.

following Lord Illidan's reccomendation of BlobWars: Metal Blob Solid, I will also give the game a review...
Title:BlobWars: Metal Blob Solid
Rating:9/10
Website:http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/blobWars.php
Installation:apt-get install blobwars
Review:When BlobWars comes to mind, so does the solid gameplay it brings. Although the graphics are a bit sub-par and the audio could be better, the sheer addictiveness of the game is what keeps you going. There are over 8 hours of gameplay tucked into this tiny package! Thats a lot of game for something free. As Lord Illidan said, it is fun to watch the enemys explode into millions of tiny, bloody pieces. But if you dont think you can handle that much violence, there is an "off" switch for the blood and gore. This is a great free game just waiting to be played. I give it my reccomendation.

Title: Nexuiz
Rating: 10/10
Website: http://www.nexuiz.com
Installation: Loki Installer: http://www.liflg.org
Review: Nexuiz is a Deathmatch style First person shooter, in the vein of Quake 1 and other games. It includes a different take on weaponry, such as the crylink and electro; as well as changing the way some other weapons act like the manual detonation alt-fire of the Rocket Launcher. Patch 1.2 includes several new game modes like CTF, TDM, Runematch, and a few others. The entire game is released under the GPL. This game is fast paced, pretty, and can be very brutal online. :)
Title: Darwinia
Rating: 9/10
Website: http://www.introversion.co.uk
Installation: Linux installer on website.
Review: Darwinia is a Real Time Strategy game with a twist. You take on a role of a computer hacker that accessed the Darwinia servers, during the middle of a huge virus attack. It is your job to rescue the darwinians (2-dimensional AI beings) and protect them from the "evil" virus. The game uses mouse gesturing to build stuff, and has a "retro-like" look to the entire world.
Title: Cube
Rating: 9/10
Website: http://www.cubeengine.com
Installation: Download tarball from sourceforge
Review: Cube is a First person shooter with a completely original engine: All maps are made out of cubed units. This allows mapmaking to be easy and is the only game to allow "Co-op editing". The game includes various Singleplayer maps and campaigns where you're just a guy with a gun, killing ugly baddies. Fans of Doom 1 & 2 can relate. Multiplayer Cube is perhaps the fastest yet, even with roughly 4-5 weapons. Players are lucky to last longer than 30 seconds of a DM server, and even less on Instagib, a very popular gametype in Cube. Overall its very fun, small, and good for a quick game to get your "frag" on.

This is a known ET bug AFAIK, if it's just a map or campaign file it's downloading then restarting ET should do the trick. If it's downloading a mod like ETPro (http://bani.anime.net/etpro/download.html) then you are best off downloading the mod from the website first and installing it manually.
Additionally, if it's a file you don't need then you can set "cl_allowDownload 0" in the game's console temporarily (you'll need to set it back to "1" if you join a server with new maps)

I tried to do cl_allowDownload 0 in the console, but it first say can't write to the .conf file and then i try again and it will. However now when i try to join any game it just quits out of ET entirely

Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory. It's been posted already so I won't describe it more other than to say that it's probably the most addicting game I've played. The graphics might not be as good as a game like CS, but the gameplay is simply amazing. I give it a 10/10.
StepMania. C'mon, someone else has to be playing this game. I guess it's not totally free because you have to buy the mats, but the application is free (warning: make sure to buy the mats...dancing on your keyboard can be dangerous). I have played the PS2 and XBox version of DDR, and IMO StepMania is better than both. Of course nothing can beat the arcade version. I give it a 10/10 for game quality and a 11/10 for physical workout. Go Heavy or go home ;-)
