Ubuntu style backgrounds

Does anyone know how to make those ubuntu style backgrounds. like the default one in gusty gibbon. I searched everywhere and the only thing i could find was for flash 8.

The Ubuntu backgrounds seem very similar to Mac-style backgrounds, except in earth tones.

You might try something like this:

Or Google for "Mac-style backgrounds." I don't know how much you'll find for GIMP though. I haven't looked.
