My little brother is looking to buy an external DJ console to put music at parties, like this one http://www.cortex-pro.com/dmix_300.php. (http://www.cortex-pro.com/dmix_300.php). They interact with some programs on a pc via the usb port.
Does anyone know of a similar device that can work with Ubuntustudio?
Or perhaps a different solution for mixing at a semi-professional level...

Well the software I'd recommend is mixxx http://mixxx.sourceforge.net/ and their Hardware Compatability page http://mixxx.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility lists a few devices that should do the trick. I should mention that the FAQ page specifically states that the Herculese DJ console will have excellent support in the upcoming release.
The other route is a bit more flexible and professional in my opinion, and that's to buy a turntable setup and run XWAX http://www.xwax.co.uk/. That way he can look that much cooler in front of the ladies. Not to mention that the touch and responsiveness that vinyl offers just can't be matched by a jog wheel.
