Create documents and files easy by Templates
Imagine if you have a standard document at your work with contains some standard formulars and/or writting. With Templates you can make your work alot easier.

1. This howto will show you how to making files fast in your desktop.
2. What it does: When you right click your desktop, you can easely pick a file type under Create Document.

Open file browser. In the tab choose Go --> Templates

In the Templates you can make your desire file you want to have in Create Document. Eg. Text Document.txt now copy it to Templates. Eventually fill in some text that this text document have to contain.

Now you can see that if you right clicks somewhere on your desktop and choose Create Document there's a Text Document to choose. Very simple :)

Another possiblilty is an example an OO word document.
Open OO Word, insert the text/picture/headline/signature it shall contain or keep it blank.
Now save it. Then move it to the Templates folder in your home directory.

Or simple download the file I've attached an unpack it in Template. It contains the OpenOffice, text document and shell script template file ready to use immedatly. All of them are blank - but you can modify them as you like.

If you want to split it up in catagories just make a folder in Template and move around the diffrent Template files.

This was nice!
If you have a multiuser system, I guess you could just make a symlink from every /home/*/Templates to a folder shared between everybody instead of doing it manually for every user

I see one issue here. For example, I created ~/Templates/Text document.txt. Now when I create few files from template they are named:

Text document.txt
Text document.txt 1
Text document.txt 2
...

I would like to get

Text document.txt
Text document 1.txt
Text document 2.txt

Any thoughts?

Hmm...I can't help you there, sorry.

My best advise will be to rename the file after making it.

How come the 'create document' dialogue still states that there are 'no templates installed' if you right click on the desktop?

Perhaps you done something wrong. Did you try to download the one I attached to the thread? Extract it to Templates /capital T as linux is case sensitive.

Thanx AI. Will this work for images also? I guess only if it were a certin size? I wonder if theres a way to launch the "New Image" dialog off the bat in GIMP and other image apps?

I dunno, but my guess is that you have to make an empty image with then put that empty image in Templates.
