Take these two quizzes
http://desktoplinuxathome.com/distro.html
http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/index.php
or look at the top ten list at DistroWatch.

The best way is to try the main ones and see if you like them. Eg. Ubuntu, Suse, Fedora, Debian, etc... imo

I was looking for a distro that matched my skin and Skechers vintage sneakers, so I chose Ubuntu.

I tried the first one there...
We found these matches, sorted by how well they match:
Ubuntu
Failed these criterias:
Does not have a graphical installer
Does not have one-click installable applications
I dont think I chose graphical installer... I did choose the second though :P
Also the second quiz gave me ubuntu as the best choice.

Well, Totem never works for me upon installation on Ubuntu. I don't know why Ubuntu has it as default.
Now i just removed it and put xine instead works right away. (except not cd but dvd only)

sudo apt-get install totem-xine will give you a fully functional totem.

For laptops: Suse
For tweakers: Gentoo
For old computers: Damn Small Linux
For good live CDs: Knoppix, Kanotix, or Mepis
For Gnome fan: Fedora

I am a Ubuntu user and very happy with it.
I took the distro match maker.... And it told me I was already in the perfect relationship.

LOL. It recommended Ubuntu (perfect match, apparently :P). The other quiz also gave me Ubuntu at the top of the list. It's pretty funny considering how little research I did before installing Ubuntu.

Maybe. But there is some truth to it. If you can never generalize, you can never make big statements and it gets confusing.
