I would like to suggest an improvement for the forum.

I think it would be good to be able to catagorise a post, for the version of ubuntu your question/tip/etc is concerning.

There are too many variations of hardware/software configs now... It's getting really hard to find specific info for your variant, especially on Xubuntu, etc. Where subtle differences can sometimes boggle a neer-newbie, eager to fully explore his options like me for days.

I recently swapped to X from U when I upgraded to 7.10 to taste it, and I really love it, but there are little things that have taken a while to sort out, that might have been easier to fix if I was only displayed relevant results for X.

The forum has been a massive help while using Ubuntu Feisty, and I'm sure a little modification is a realistic concept to greatly benefit for our diverse minorities!

Thanks for the suggestion. We had the same idea about a year ago. For a while we had a tag system up and running in the forums where all posts were tagged with specific terms to assist in searches like you describe. It slowed down the forums too much and had some other problems behind the scenes. We haven't found any suitable replacement, but if one comes up we will certainly consider implementing it.

I remember ages back there were also seperate forums for the Ubuntu, Kubuntu etc. desktop environments, but it just diluted things as so many issues are common to both.

Yeah that's a bad idea.

Much of what I've found is pretty much the same across the board. I realise it's important not to split the community as it benefits overall cross compatibility
