I have configured LTSP by using the following document...
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ThinClientHowto

I am using a Windows Server 2003 box for DHCP. I can boot using PXE to the OS and I get a GUI login screen. The problem is, when I log in the server DOES authenticate the user (checked logs) but the screen goes black then jumps right back to the login screen. There are no messages to suggest a problem on the thin client. I'm sure I'm missing something simple but I just don't know where to look. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

For reference, I've installed this on a fresh install twice with no other services running or configured.

You should take a look over here first
http://forum.freespire.org/forumdisplay.php?f=80
I get a feeling you need to do
sudo ltsp-update-sshkeys
sudo ltsp-update-image
however you said you are authenticating so....have you tried to reboot the server? I have had that a few times in the past and I did a reboot on the server then it worked. Dumb I know, but sometimes it helps. Let us know if you get anywhere.
Maybe you can help me with something....
Can you take a look in /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/doc/ltsp-client/ and see if you have an "examples" in there, if you do can you post it here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=615623
Thanks!

Thank you for the link. That seems like a good resource.

I'm sorry, I should've mentioned it in the original post but I have done as you suggested already. That seems to be the most common fix but not for me. I've also tied the hostname to IP address in ssh_known_hosts.

BTW: No "examples". Just changelog.gz, copyright, and NEWS.Debian.gz.

What is the server's IP? Mine didn't work until I set it to 192.168.0.1.

That's strange. Did you have it set to be statically assigned when you installed LTSP? No, my ip is not that. I'll see if that does any good.

Any other thoughts?

I was facing a similar problem - the system just returned to the login screen after authenticating.

Then I realised that setting the session type would allow me to login:

From the LDM screen preferences -> sessions -> /usr/bin/gnome-session.

I then googled a little and found this thread:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/edubuntu-users/2007-December/002961.html

I had installed Sabayon to lockdown the ltsp session and this was in fact causing the problem.

Yet another problem with Sabayon!!!

Just out of interest. Did you get sabayon working without crashing all of the time?
