S2Games introduced their next title, a successor toSavage2 Linux Savage. The multiplayer fantasy based action/RTS game Savage 2: A Tortured Soul will continue to provide the gaming community with innovation.

It is a sequel so it will have some similarities to Savage: The Battle for Newreth. Mainly the general concepts and world that made Savage: The Battle for Newreth great, but with a ton of new innovative ideas and the polish to really bring it together. The gameplay is now all unit based, 20 unique units. The few you can see in the screenshots are a builder, scout, warrior, etc.

All with very unique abilities. Units will NOT simply be larger versions of themselves as they were in Savage. There'll be a great deal more RPG elements this time as well, items, drops, buffs, debuffs. With that will come some very unique gameplay.

To bad that the main renderer is Direct3D, which means at least initially no Linux support.

They are planning to do a OpenGL renderer and also want to cooperate with Transgaming, but only time will tell if this game will ever work on Linux, which is really a crying shame :(

Nope, the developers have said on the forums that there will be a Linux version, though there won't be any technical support for it.

Quote from the developers:

"Yes, the game runs on Linux. I doubt we'll offer official technical support for Linux, simply because it'd be such an expense to the publisher. But we'll have unofficial support, just like the other Linux games out there.

Savage currently runs great on Linux! I just added Linux support for anti-aliasing and the ability to toggle windowed or fullscreen mode."

That is new then, on the day of the announcement I checked their forum and all they said back then was: "maybe, but the Direct3D renderer is a problem" (loosely quoted).

Good to hear that they are really planning to support Linux (but we will see if it really happens).

That is awesome. I feel like I might cry. I just hope they keep the linux version up to date so it can synch with the servers!
