I am trying to install the latest greatest Ubuntu Server onto my Ultra Enterprise 3000. This machine is an older style Sparc box with 6 processors, and the sbus system.

The error I receive is that it cannot load the drivers from my cdrom. I saw a similar thread a long time ago about sbus, but since these releases were years apart I did not fully understand what was transpiring.

Typically the old SUN cdroms are the grey, or the yellowish white ones. Is there some way to get Ubuntu installed short of a network install? I was hoping by posting in the Sun Sparc forum instead of general install I would get sun knowledgeable people, though I am sure this belongs there.

Can anyone give me the advice I need to install this system?

This is an SBUS series, all scsi. The jumper is set to 6, and the Open boot prompt when asked shows the hardware.

It is a cream colored one, but I have had the same error on a grey one. I have newer drives, but tend to stick to OEM as much as possible.

What jumper settings should I set? I get all the way through the initial detection of hardware, so it is reading from the CDROM. Then it just fails out not knowing what driver to load.
