So I've noticed that some others have had this problem, though I haven't found any issue (or solution) like this with Gutsy. So, here goes.
When I make modifications to the screensaver/power management settings, they do not take effect...at all. The screensaver does not turn on, there is only a blank (but powered) screen. A few minutes later, the screen shuts off (which it is currently instructed NOT to do) and the only way to regain control is to cold boot. All 3d desktop effects work flawlessly, with the exception that my toolbars are not visible upon system start until I rotate the cube once.
If anyone has answers to why this is happening and possible fixes, they would be greatly appreciated. Also appreciated would be some troubleshooting techniques as I'm still learning Linux.
I'm running a fully updated Gutsy on a Toshiba satellite laptop. My gfx card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 200.
