I am new to linux and since I do not know technical details I wanted an easy to use and windows like linux. I finally came across freespire. I wish to change the appearance of the OS in terms of its name i.e. I wish to write Linux where ever Freespire is written in order to show my friends how great Linux is. First comes the booting screen, thereafter loading screen and then "Welcome to Freespire" and the desktop wallpaper with Linux instead of Freespire. Also on the sidebar over the Launch button now "F" button which I would also like to replace with "L". Please guide me how to do all that. This is my first step to linux and I wish someday I will be able to use Ubuntu when I have enough technical knowledge and I will also customize it. No doubt the most popular linux OS in the world. Awaiting your help. :)

I can give some pointers, but what do you really need?
if its logos and stuff you wish to change just leave the logos and junk as they are.
Do you need to change the way your system looks?
such as color schemes, appearance, icons and stuff.
I can help but you need to be a bit more specific

hi thanks for your offer. To begin first I would like to change the logo i.e. freespire with just linux so my friends think i am not using freespire but linux, though its still linux the word freespire does not look good. Also as they are also windows users this would look more easier for them to use linux and i would ask them to use linux instead then. please help.:)

alright.
well first you can install new wallpapers with the word linux on them here:
KDE look (http://www.kde-look.org/)
and here:
Gnome look (http://www.gnome-look.org/)
both KDE look and gnome look have a vast array of options for you on the wallpaper front.
for icons and such you can also use KDE look, though dont install icons from gnome look as they wont work as the icon sets on there work differently
you can also look for color schemes too on KDE look, KDE is what freespire uses as its desktop environment, KDE is pretty much the same no matter if you use Ubuntu or not.
Now if you wonder what does "desktop environment" mean just look it up via wikipedia or whatever you prefer.
Simply put KDE is relitively easy to customize.
now you do know how to work the KDE control center right?
If not no big deal, on freespire its under "settings" in your menu, just select "control panel" and it will come up.
once the control center is up click on "appearance and themes"
this is how you can change many things about the look and feel of your system.
now you can install most icon themes and color schemes via KDE look, but I will warn you some of the icon sets you might have to compile so be cautious here and read what the author wrote about the icon set before committing.
now for the styles this is tricky, a good amount of the styles on KDE look are in source code, and to be honest with you I am not familiar with the repository of themes you can get on freespire.
Ones I can suggest looking for are:
baghira: for a apple OSX like theme
polyester
QTcurve
I like those themes, and feel they can suit your needs, but installing them I have no clue, you can check the click and run warehouse and see if they are available.
another good one to look out for is something called KBFX, KBFX is an alternative to the default menu of your system, but as above I dont know if you can get them...
