AMD has stated that they reckon Linux as the new gaming OS hence the specification and major driver upgrade. Today they release their new optimized R600 cards. The names is HD3850 and HD3870.
Well. Since they now should focus a bit more on Linux, does it have good OpenGL support? No. I've read several reviews where they test ET:QW and all the time the fps was significantly lower than Nvidia's 8800GT.
These tests were ofcourse made in Windows. I don't really know what AMD is doing, they released these cards today and the cards were delivered with beta drivers. And there is no newer drivers yet. :lolflag:
What kind of graphicsmanufacturer does that?
I think it's time to leave AMD behind and go for Nvidia this time.

the whole ati thing has got me baffled too, as AMD owns them.
man if you are beaten out by intel that many claim to be anti linux then it must be bad

I wouldn't say Intel is anti linux since they release their hardware specs to the open source community. In fact any computer with an intel video card and chipset works great with ubuntu. I have an old dell laptop with an 8MB shared memory video card and compiz fusion works great.

its the trusted computing concept that makes most linux users cringe about intel, personally I like intel as its what works for me.

I had no idea about the trusted computing issue. I can see that being a problem for linux since the hardware vendors can lock out linux installations. Great point, i will read up more on TC.

well for me I am trying to stay neutral on the trusted computing as I can see how it can benefit us.
But even DRM has its relatively good intentions locked inside the wires of corporate nonsense and legal brouhaha

I'm pretty sure AMD is also a member of the trusted computing gang.

I will try to make this sound the least rude and offensive I can. But since you appear from you posts to have read up on the topic I wonder how could have missed the obvious. I mean just a simple google search on the terms amd trusted computing (http://www.google.ch/search?hl=en&q=amd+trusted+computing&btnG=Google+Search&meta=) tells you all that you need to know. And that is: Yes AMD is also a happy promoter of trustec computing. And to be nice so in case you ever wonder who exactly is in on trusted computing heres a handy list (https://www.trustedcomputinggroup.org/about/members/) for future references.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the MS OpenGL implementation is crippled ? Or am I mistaken ?
