View Full Version : Installing Steam/CSS with a disk

I have the windows copy of Steam and Css. I no that i can istall this through wine. which i have been able to start. but i get through using disk 1 . it tells me to use disk 2. i eject the cd.... i eject the cd.... a notice pops up " Cannot unmount drive. an application is preventing the volume from being ejected".


how can i overcome this?

Don't bother installing from the CDs, you don't have to. Just download the Steam client manually, install it, type in your account and start downloading the content from scratch through it.

If you have an existing installation on a separate Windows drive, you can copy all the GCF files from the Steamapps folder in the Windows Steam install, into the Linux steam install. That will save you from downloading.

Otherwise, if you still want to do things the way you already are, unmount the drive cleanly by right clicking the CD icon on the desktop and select Eject. Preferable to just ejecting by pressing the button on the drive.

yea i got steam installed, and its dling it.. im at 90%. i still would have prefered the disk. much faster

ty for the thought. i was a bit slow. ill just let it finish the dl. it didnt that THAT long. i should have cheked back faster
