I downloaded a copy of gOS to play with today, and was wondering if anyone else here had played with it?
If so, what are your opinions on it?

I installed it yesterday and really liked the performance of e17 desktop. My only complaint is my wifi wouldn't work. I have been running kubuntu for quite sometime and never had a problem. I may reinstall it again to see if I screwed something up. I am a google fan and live by igoogle on my browser. The idea that google would support a distro is exciting.

Hmmm. I don't think Google actually endorses or supports gOS in any way. That said, I find it to be a very neat distro and it certainly offers new Linux users a friendly intro.

I put it in front of some older (a gentle term) relatives who have cumulatively used computers for less than an hour--well, they sat in front of them afraid to touch them for a long time, but actually spent less than an hour doing things with the,
I was amazed at how well they figured the OS out--there's still lots of hurdles for them, like basic web concepts, but as far as the OS it's wonderful. It's really kinda like the OLPC for desktops.
"Do you want to search for something? Type it in the big search box" "Do you want to see your email? Click the big envelope"
I plan on having a walkthrough with my grandpa, and hopefully he'll like it enough to let me install it on his laptop. So far he's turned the thing on twice--so hopefully it will let him make use of his investment; meanwhile my poor grandma got ripped by the video Professor scam-artist (http://www.google.com/search?q=video+professor+scam+fraud)
*I'm serious about the video professor, she ordered a free CD like the ads offer, and they immediately sent close to $100 worth of merch she didn't request and they refused to take back.

Thanks for the link to the official forum..
I installed it on a virtual pc last night and played with it. My 8-year-old saw me and is itching to get her hand on it. Her first question is "Can it play Tux Paint?" lol! Once I reassured her that it could play any games she had on her current computer (she's running xubuntu 7.10), she is begging me to install it on her machine.
She's got a 333MHz processor and 328(?) MB RAM, so it would be a good test of how well it does on older hardware, but I'm skeptical cause she isn't allowed internet access on her private pc and this thing is loaded with Google links....
Thinking of attempting to edit that panel and swap the Google apps for games for her.... Any thoughts on that?

I have it on a Vbox session and so far I am liking it a lot. Would love to see a distro for PPC so I could give it a spin on my iBook, but that is just because I am wierd ;)
