Right now I'm using Ubuntu Feisty on my desktop / Mythbox. I'm hooking it up from my nVidia card's S-Video to my TV's S-Video. With the nvidia drivers, it works decently fine (it's terrible during boot up, but once GDM shows up, everything is fine).

I burned the Mythbuntu LiveCD and attempted to boot it, but it doesn't seem to work. It's doing the "terrible boot up" thing that it normally does, but it never fixes. I can't tell how far it gets, because it's that bad. I'm assuming this is because it doesn't have the nVidia drivers preloaded.

I was wondering, would it be better if I used the VGA-out on my video card and just got a VGA-to-whatever (SVideo, Composite, Component) adapter? If so, would something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/VGA-to-3-RCA-Component-Video-Break-Out-Cable-6-ft-M-M_W0QQitemZ220172001007QQihZ012QQcategoryZ64631QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) work (I'm talking about the type of cable....not the uber-cheap quality of it :D)?

On that page, it says:

THIS CABLE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER'S VGA PORT TO THE COMPONENT INPUT ON YOUR HDTV unless your video card supports component out function through it's VGA port (please confirm with your video cards documentation before purchasing)

How would I check for this, and would it require the nvidia drivers?

Basically, what should I do to ensure the best compatibility - honestly, video quality isn't my highest concern. My card has SVideo, VGA, and DVI out.

If you install Mythbuntu using a normal monitor, during the installation you get the option to install the nVidia driver and set up TV output. You can select S-Video here, and then it should work properly when you connect it to the TV set.
