Check the WineHQ AppDB (appdb.winehq.org) for information on whether specific programs work in Wine. If your program's not in there, submit a report on what didn't work and maybe someone can help you fix it.

Would like to know as well. I want Age of Empires to work, but wine is really complicated and the help is not much of help. I think I am not advanced enough.

Many games don't yet work in Wine, or don't work without extensive setup. Another good place to look for answers is frankscorner.org, they have many good walkthroughs on how to get programs up and running. If your program isn't listed, it's possible that it's not supported by Wine yet, and no amount of configuration will get it to run. Wine is still alpha software after all. In that case, you may want to become an application maintainer for that program, and submit bug reports about why it doesn't work. That will greatly help your chances of the problem being fixed. It's also possible that your configuration isn't correct. I've heard of lots of people who got Age of Empires to work correctly, so that's most likely your problem, GrootBrak. For help with that, try going to the Wine IRC channel: irc.freenode.net, port 6667, channel #winehq. It's not terribly busy, but there are some knowledgable people in there. Hope that helps.

Ive run AOE successfully with Cedega, but then , as everyone will admit, donating 5 bux a month to their cause isnt for everyone.
