I want to say thank you to all of you who helped me and my transition from Windows to Ubuntu. All my little questions have been answered and I have learned so much in the past week. Thank you.

+1. The community here is really awesome -- an incredible resource, both in a social and technical way. :)

It's nice to have you come back and say thank you. Although i didn't help you i am sure those that did will appreciate it. Your learning journey isn't over yet, keep reading those books and internet sites to gain even more knowledge. :)

I am fully aware of that. I look forward to learning as much as I can with this new OS. It took me for ever to learn how to install a flash player. The setup of the lamp server and Gnome interface was easy enough. Now I need to learn how to manage my servers. I would like to know what books are best for someone as new as I. I can't wait to become more of a community member instead of simply asking questions that makes the rest of you roll your eyes. :)

Glad you are enjoying Ubuntu. This community is the best I have seen for any Distro when it comes to help the new people.

Thanks for this thread. It was at the top of the list, so it was easy to spot.
from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=608738
As I was working thru the No Disk steps, I remembered that I have read and followed directions almost to the word, from a forum on the internet. At that time, we were trying to share one xp's printer to another xp computer. I don't know why I didn't think of searching for directions this time. The directions I followed then, could be included in this link http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...e+Search&meta=
I vaguely remember him saying something like that too! haha! I know I printed his post after the great struggle, it seemed to be at the time, to find any directions to do such a wild and wonderful thing. My Dad and I spent quite a bit of time trying to find directions that worked. Following along his directions was very difficult for us. We were not very experienced at running computers, and I'm still not now. One of us would hold his finger on the directions so we wouldn't lose our place, because there were no [quotes] to make the great ones we get now, just "." and to conserve space, the poster said he didn't break up the lines at every > mark, on purpose. When it came to clicking, my Dad would ask, where do I click? ... and once or twice? I didn't know either. It was good. It seemed a little rough at the time, but good and rough now. ha! He finaly got it going one late night while I was sawing logs. He finally double clicked the computer name ... And just like today, I misplaced the disk. Well this time I put it back in the xp's cardboard box that has all the driver disks and the install disk and the booklet the install disk came in. But, I put it in it's jacket backwards, so when I went looking for it, it just looked like a plain recordable cd thru the clear side of the envelope, not the printer's driver cd. I looked at it and put it back twice before I finally took it out to check. #!@#! haha! I'm not just typing that haha! I'm laughing. The printed directions are probably still in my gear somewhere ... I'm sure glad I finally double clicked the Ubuntu printer server Name, a fluke really. But I know one thing for sure, it wasn't a Ubuntu computer last time. It is this time, and that's good. I'm happy. I like this. A toast to all who got Gnu/Linux and the rest of the free operating systems and free software to where it is today. THANKS!!! now I got somethin in my eye. gotta go.

I don't know anything about a lamp server, other than that might be some guy who pours oil into it. But there be them that don't have to search for the cream of the crop. They write it. haha!
Please post your recommended links, it's up to you if it's free I guess.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/?action=fullsearch&context=180&value=lamp&titlesearch=Titles
please type
lamp
in the keyword(s) box , click down arrow and choose Search Titles Only. (Links to the search results don't work.) You could post a link to a search result and see what you get when you click on it after you close your Post Reply window. You could try different combinations of keywords maybe. You can search just one forum by selecting one in the Search in Forum box.

I took a quick look at the headings in the Installing Server Applications at
http://help.ubuntu.com and
System > Help and Support > Advanced Topics > Installing Server Applications but didn't see a LAMP heading.
I want to learn how to run virtual machines so that I can hopefully have an LTSP server serve more than one operating system, and , or, have different styles of ubuntu installed
on different virtual machines. I'm pretty sure I've got the wrong terminology there but that's the general idea of the plan anyway. WWWa
