I can't think of which one I want to dual boot with ubuntu yet. It's a hard choice
(and know I don't want to do a tri boot)

You could try out this test: http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/index.php

Maybe that'll help. :)

Meh. thanks for replying but I took that test and it gave me ones I didn't want besides ubuntu, but I already have that.

I just want to know which one has more flash, and looks cooler

Mint is basically just ubuntu with a few add ons. You can just add the mint repos and you have mint. Therefore, if you want to try something different, try dreamlinux. In the end, since they are all Debian based distros, they are basically all the same.

what looks "cooler" is subjective. whatever you like is good.

which repos are that

If you want those mint customized menus and things, then you can add the mint repos.

deb http://www.linuxmint.com/repository bianca/

Depending on what version you are running, you may need either bianca, cassandra, celena, or daryna.

Dream Linux is one of my favorites. In fact, it's what I'm using right now. I haven't used any of the newer Mint versions though.

dream linux looks pretty good, although Mint is more elegant and up to my tastes.

If you already have a functional install of Ubuntu on your computer complete with all the applications you want, there's no reason for you to install Linux Mint. It's not much better in the looks department, just more add-ons and the like. If you want a sexy distro, go with DreamLinux. Even though it's Xfce, it's pretty, lightweight, and fairly practical.

I personally prefer Linux Mint. It has had no driver issues (wifi, printer, etc.) and I love the art! I have also posted a screenshot of my desktop:

Well thanks. My Mint download's at 99%. Wish you'd told me that BEFORE. Gah, now I have to try and get Dream again, and wait a lovely 20 hours for it because the torrent never has more than 3 seeds.

Wow, okay. I just got to this thread, and willingly offered a word of advice. I didn't have to take the time to help you out, but I did. If you're going to be that hostile about it I frankly don't care what you download, and I will be sure to avoid taking time out of my day to help you in the future.

They look nice, but I cant find the energy to fiddle too much with new distros. Whatever distro I install, I have to use the same few programs anyway.

It is nice to have choice though. Very nice. I just don't want to loose more time on distribution-surfing. I hope Ubuntu and Gnome will step into this century some day soon, and improve the GUI and start menu.

I would prefer all this eye-candy as add-ons or whatever you call it, so I wouldn't have to install a new distro just for eye-candy. As of now my philosophy is "if it works, don't fix it".

Is that the default look? It looks like the worst from Vista and OS X!! (My taste, you may disagree! :) )

Settle down, tiger. I was playin' around. Sorry I didn't put the appropriate little smiley on the end of that, figured you'd be able to pick up on that without it. Yeesh.

My bad. Sorry about my belligerent reply. It's hard to tell whether people are trying to joke around to are being serious. Cheers.

It happens. Nature of the internet and all. I sometimes forget that, as I'm a sarcastic ******* speaking face to face, sarcasm comes across over the internet about as well as sign language over the phone. No harm no foul, eh?

No, the default look is actually quite different. I just like the greenish window borders (emerald). By default it is blue. Also by default it has one taskbar at the bottom with mintMenu, a Slab-like menu, the windows open, notification area, etc. Just go to their website (Here (http://linuxmint.com)) and look at the screenshots there. My screenshot really isn't that good.

I like DreamLinux and tried to install it on several different machines with no luck. After checking out their forums, I found that this is not uncommon. I am keeping an eye on this distro for future use.
Between the two; LinuxMint gets my vote.

I recently changed my PCLinux partition for a Mint one and although I liked both of them PCL never managed to produce a single peep of sound out of my laptop in a years worth of trying (don't talk me about alsa, I have installed every new version from source a dozen times over and it never made a blind bit of difference, neither did the default PCL version). The point of this post however is to disagree with those that say that Ubuntu is the same as Mint. I have a quadruple boot laptop with Hardy, Gutsy, Mint and (sorry) XP. The ease with which Mint installed and more importantly - worked - on my laptop is worth a huge amount of praise, I have never had this ease of use with any other distro. Perhaps the most important difference is networking. I have a desktop running PCLinux which I use for backups and my wife has another laptop running XP which I connect to occasionally as well. With Ubuntu this process is like pulling out your own teeth - all I ever get is a login screen asking for a username and password and no matter how many times you enter the correct answers, all you ever get is 'access denied'. I eventually got round to fixing this in Gutsy by manually rewriting my smb.conf file from scratch - but it is still flaky. In Linux Mint I had a working network 'out of the box'. The last time this occurred is when I tried out Xandros (but I don't recommend it).

So Mint and Ubuntu are not the same, at least not on my laptop, Mint is superior in some respects particularly networking.

Okay, thats more like it! I think screenshots would be more usable without wallpapers. A piece of art and you go WHOOOW...
