out of eleven pages, i saw one comment that might have been objectionable and could have been removed without damaging the substance of the discussion. the thread struck me as an important topic as it related to the core of linux politics in general and ubuntu politics (humanity) specifically.

Someone request the thread be closed, it was closed.
I read the posts. it started in the right direction, but was getting to close to being ugly.
From one point of view, it was getting off point.
If the question needs to be answered, refer to RMS's answer. This has been covered many many times.

I'm the one who asked for that thread to be closed. I asked mainly because of that comment, but it had already been getting a little rough in there before then. Besides, it had been discussed in about every way it could be discussed, and, from what I saw, all but two people agreed that free software was not a human right.

there must be a better way to deal with one objectionable comment than closing an entire thread (that's like amputating your arm because of a hangnail).

The thread should have been closed but it should have been stated before doing so that Mr Stallman never made a statement during the course of the interview declaring free software to be "a basic human right". That characterization was made in one of the responses to the talk and unfortunately the thread's discussion focused more upon the semantics of that phrase than on Mr Stallman's ideas.

Lol - that thread was funny.
I haven't come across so many dumb statements in one place since the last press conference by Bush and Blair.
Are you sure you lot use free software?
