Is it possible to run on Mouse Mode with an Intuos3? In Windows XP there are two modes, Pen (which works in reference to where your pen is positioned on the surface) and Mouse Mode (dunno how to explain this).
I am planning on using Kubuntu Gutsy.

I know the I 2 wacom tablet acts like a mouse regardless of where you are unless you use a program that knows how to take advantage of the tablet functions. Don't know if that makes any sense. I never liked the mouse that came with my setup... so I don't use it.. But if I use the stylus it acts like a mouse till I load up gimp or krita... etc.

I don't use the mouse that came with my Int.3 but just tried it... it move lot slower but all the same it moves (but I have no use for it)..
I however would like to get my 4 buttons and scroll thats on the tablet to work, but that I dont think is going to happen

I'm not sure what you refer to as the mouse behaviour. If it is the movement of pointer relative to the current position (not absolute to the position in the tablet), then I think it can be done, and the velocity can be tunned as well. I have a bamboo-pen wacom tablet and I use it like that.
There is a long list of instructions on wacom tablets here:

Use wacomcpl.
You need to apt-get it first though, and it needs to be run from command line.
