ok well have you installed Ubuntu yet? If not then do so.
After you've done that look under the menu system>... i think its admin>the restricted drivers manager. Open that and install the nvidia driver and then restart your computer and you should be good to go;)
Got more questions? Feel free to ask away!
I've made a video of the program you have to run.

I'm running 7.10 on an Acer Extensa 5620, and I cannot get visual effects to work. When I try, I get the message, "Desktop effects could not be enabled," and nothing else. Just in case, I went Software Sources, as the article suggests, and I found that the appropriate boxes were all checked already.
I'm new to Linux, so there might be some obvious fix that I'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey, i am also using a acer extenza 5620 and believe it or not our graphics card is blacklisted from the compiz fusion list, BUT there is a way around that just open up the terminal and type SKIP_CHECKS=yes compiz and the screen will flash a couple of times and then you will need to go back to the visual effects settings tab in appearance and you will see a new option at the bottom of the screen it will say custom and will have a preferences tab next to it press the preferences tab and start applying settings for compiz fusion
Make sure you have the gnome compiz manager and the other compiz settings managers applied in synaptic.
GOOD LUCK

I've got Beryl up and running, but I've only got two workspaces, so the general eye candy is lost. I've attempted to follow the help instructions as to how to add more, but nothing I do actually works.
Help? Anyone know what's going on?

Beryl has waned out of it's time. The new is compiz and is preinstalled in gutsy default. If you're using compiz (highly recommended) you need to install the compiz settings manger or something to that effect.
After you get it installed there is a preferences tab in there somewhere that you can change the size of your desktop e.g height and width of your desktop.
Sorry I can't be more specific about it I'm currently unable to get the proper information to help you right now.

I think that you have to Open The Compiz Settings Manager, click on General Options and on the third tab "Desktop Size" make sure that the "Horizontal Virtual Size" is set to 4 . For a triangle you can set it to 3...etc.
Hope it helps.

Once you install Ubuntu, take a look at my how-to (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=661833). There is a link in the introduction which explains how to use the various Compiz Fusion plugins. Part 1 of my how-to will install the plugins and CCSM, as well as multimedia packages etc.
