Far too often, when i'm behind my laptop I get a conversation like this:

- Whats that?
- It's linux, i like it better than windows
- ooh i heared about that.. whats kind is it?
- Kubuntu
- *giggle* thats funny 'kooooboooontoooooo' hehe

As soon as they hear the word, they start going into beavis and buthead mode, assume the developers are cannibals in africa and assume anything with a name like that has to be sub-windows.

It annoys me because anything i say about *ubuntu afterwards is overshadowed by the stereotype african people visualize.

Does anyone feel my pain here? anyone?

I have said Ubuntu many times in front of the less informed. I never had a reaction like that.

Personally, I make sure to show them my cube first, so they won't even pay attention to what it's called. ;)

I've never had that reaction. Even from people who have never heard of it before. But my friends know that I'm a crazy Linux geek:lolflag:

I live in Africa where Ubuntu (the word) is accepted rather well .
