I don't think it does need further explanation.

as I understand it, blizzard actually had a WoW linux client being worked on, but killed it due to inabillity to support all of the distro's. With the rise of ubuntu (and by that, debian based distros), they could effectivly only code for debian, and hit most of the linux community. If there is a chance to affect the decissions of the game makers to port to linux, blizzard is a good place to start...and unlike a lot of the pipe dream linux ports, this one might actually have a chance to succeed.

Even though i signed it, i know for a fact an online petition will do nothing.

They will laugh at the Linux Market

All that says is that they need to sell 250 copies to make a profit?

It doesn't say anything about the Linux market, just because a game is Linux native doesn't mean people that uses Linux will buy it, same goes for Windows bases products.
I promise you that there are many small game devs that create games that have a similar distribution rate/need.

and as far as Blizzard goes, wine and cedega is more likely to influence their decision on the Linux matter, first of they had a Linux Client but thought the cost of upkeep would be to high, but about a year in they realized that more people than could be ignored where playing WoW via wine and cedega and then implemented a function in to the WoW engine that could recognice a Linux OS behind wine and cedega.
They also gave some support pointers on some common problems and fixes related to wine and WoW client via GMs altho unoffical, I got help on wine/WOW issues from GMs on two occations.

Oh goody, another petition.#-o

Every time I see one of these, I'm reminded of Stephen Root in Office Space saying "Excuse me, I believe you have my stapler..."

These things never get the kind of response necessary to get the game companies' attention and even if they did, they are so inaccurate they are ignored anyway.

BTW - I still signed it, just in case.
