well if i am using ubuntu... and it works perfectly... are there any real technical advances in open suse beta 3? I mean i have read the documentation and it does not seem as though the distro is as unified as ubuntu or others.

what do you mean by unified? it is very integrated and everything looks good together. very polished and refined, especially fora beta.

i am using suse right now, and i must say its the best distro ive ever used. i havent even used a commandline yet, and my system is working 100%. there are a couple glitches here and there, but its still got a few months left to refine before it is released, so im sure any problems will be fixed quickly. probably the coolest thing is the ability to download MS truetype fonts and nvidia driver in the installer. i had full 3d acceleration the first time i started X.

its kinda confusing to set up the package management, but that is onyl because i am so used to modifiying my repositories in sources.list in apt distros. however, i must say that YOU is better than apt/synaptic.

not really. Its a beta. Maybe when its released. Don't throw down something that works for a beta though.

It is an amazingly stable beta though, and has some nice features (the menu search is cool, and the new SaX2). But seeing has how a new beta is released so frequently, it would be best for most to just wait for the final.

Me? I need a new spindle of CD's...

ok well to all who read this.... DO NOT CHANGE TO SUSE. I just did, my nvidia card was crippled, package management is a bitch, the distro runs sluggish compared to hoary, not to mention yast is a bloated piece of ****, also my ipw2200b/g drivers didnt work, so in short asap whenver i get home I am going back to Ubuntu where i belong.

its not perfect for everyone. i found it faster than both breezy and hoary, and i have never had stability issues. i stopped using suse 9.1 because i found that it was so slow, but i like this a lot.

the package manager is different, but im not sure i would say it is any worse than synaptic.

also, i filed a bug yesterday and it was fixed in 3 hours and 10 minutes. i was very impressed.

also, keeping up with the beta releases is pretty easy. you just have to add another source in YOU, and then when the new beta is released and is synced to the mirrors, you will have access to all the updates, and you can just use the update tool, no need to reinstall.

However, suse is still a KDE-centric distro, so if you are a gnome user you might like ubuntu better. personally, i like what they have done with it and i think i might switch ober. it depends on how good breezy is.
